Partner
Mr. Scherer has extensive experience
in equity investing and strategic portfolio management
as well as launching, financing, and building
early stage technology companies.
As one the co-founding
partners of Milestone Equity Partners (MEP), Mr.
Scherer was key in closing the company’s
$11 million financing. He was also one of the
main catalysts behind creating the company’s
proprietary screening tools to properly evaluate
early stage and emerging growth technology companies.
Through professional and personal contacts in
the world of private equity, Mr. Scherer was directly
responsible for the sourcing of over 200 of the
more than 1,200 private equity companies that
were screened by MEP. These companies specialized
in a myriad of different verticals and technologies.
In just 24 months, he was the lead partner on
some of Milestone Equity Partner’s most
successful client companies.
- Plaxo
– Currently one of the hottest start-up
companies in Silicon Valley. Plaxo received
its first round of financing, $15 million from
Sequoia Capital..
- Digital
Cinema Solutions (DCS) –
Only active Digital Cinema Network in the world.
Mr. Scherer helped DCS receive over $3.5 million
from Microsoft, Advance Micro Devices, BMW,
and IFC Credit.
- dbXML
– Native XML database. After receiving
$500K in angel financing, dbXML successfully
completed its Version 2.0 and sold successfully
into a TSA contract.
- Limelight
Networks (Co-Lead Partner) –
Content Delivery Network. Limelight Networks
has grown to an $8 Million run rate in just
two years, and recently was sold in Summer 2004.
Mr. Scherer also served
as the Assistant Vice President of Finance of
Phoenix-based visitalk.com. The company developed
and pioneered a global directory for finding individuals
for real-time communications over Internet Protocol
(IP) networks. He was responsible for building
the company’s financial model, as well as
all financial matters for the company on its financing
“road show”. He was a part of the
executive team that sourced, negotiated, and closed
a $100 million Investment Banking Engagement with
Goldman Sachs. Additionally, he was an integral
member of the group that raised $45 Million for
the Company.
Previously, Mr. Scherer
was a Partner with an investment group at First
Union Securities and Moors and Cabot in Washington
DC. During this time he also hosted a call-in
investment radio program that focused on long
term financial management.
Mr. Scherer has also served
as Program Manager at the American Society for
Engineering Education (ASEE) where he oversaw
two Post-Doctoral Fellowship programs for the
US Navy (Office on Naval Research (ONR) and Naval
Research Laboratory (NRL)). Responsibilities included
managing the screening of over 150 candidates
for full time postdoctoral fellowship inside the
Navy Labs as well as creating budgets and accounting
reports for G.A.O reports and audits.
